Time For a New Car?

Planning to get yourself a new car? Great!! But, please, for the sake of your hard earned money, go through the following links just to be sure that you don't bet your buck on the wrong car.

I am talking about Skoda here, indeed they make great cars. No doubts. But the kind of attrocitites one has to go through to own one is no way acceptable. Sure, there are happy owners, good for them, at the same time there are just too many horror stories about this brand. Final call rests with you, but do spend some time on the links am providing.

Source: All these are from Team-BHP, an automotive forum, where people share experiences, both good and bad they have had about cars, dealerships, any car-related product, almost eveything. Coming from owners, I rely on it more than I do on any auto-mag.

This was just from *one* forum, I am sharing the links as it comes as a shocker for me. that a brand which is perceived as a Luxury one here in India (Interesting, since Skoda is still a budget brand around the globe) is so sloppy when it comes to customer satisfaction. I wouldn't be surprised if they have to pack their bags soon. On a side note though, I wish they improve their shortcoming as they still make great cars!!

Hope you make a informed choice!!
Cya!!

Using MG Maps On Nokia 5800

Last time I wrote about Mobile GMaps, I promised to write a tutorial. But, haven't got the time yet. So, here I'll be posting some of the links that helped get me started. Hope it works for you too.

There are somethings that are different. I'll point that out later.

Link 1: http://gmaps.freewebspace.com/

Though the site provides further links about the things you'll need to download, I am providing the latest ones here again,

Link 2: MGMaps:http://www.mgmaps.com/download.php
Be sure select the latest available stable version and 'generic' platform. Detailed instructions are available on the download page.

Link 3: Map Builder*: http://www.mgmaps.com/cache/
*You'll need this to download your map data/tiles and is an alternative to the active pearl script, so you can safely omit the steps which mentions active pearl script and the likes.

Download and install the gMap Maker vXX.XX (xx- version)
You can just run the program and download the required area by filling in the left top and bottom right co-ordinates. These co-ordinates can be obtained from here.

Regarding the settings, try the hash and tiles per file youself by trial and error, as to what works best for you.

1. Specify the location where to save the map files on your comp.
2. Specify the co-ordinates of the area to be downloaded.
3. Select the zoom level. Following data might be helpful (Only for Yahoo India Maps),

Actual elevation   Zoom
100m               16     << If you want the max possible zoom in>>
    200m               15
    300m               14
    500m               13
      1km               12
      2km               11     << Ideal for highway navigation>>
      5km               10
    10km                 9
    20km                 8
    30km                 7
  100km                 6
  200km                 5

4. Specify the map type, choose Yahoo India Maps
5. Select "download tiles using entered area"
6. Use the hash and tiles per file as it is or you can tweak and see as to what works best with you.
NOTE: I personally use the 32 tiles per file setting as it greatly reduces the number of files.
7. Hit go to start downloading.

BE CAREFUL ABOUT:

1. Though higher zoom level might look good bear in mind. higher the zoom level, larger the files, longer it will take to download and transfer to your phone.
2. Be sure to copy the cache.conf to your cell's M GMap directory. Else it won't work.
3. In some cases, the tiles might start to show up in the Gallery with other pictures. To avoid this, while your cell is connected in the mass transfer mode, just "hide" the MgMaps directory ON your cell. Tiles will still be available to MgMaps but won't appear in the gallery.

Rest of the steps are quite the same as mentioned under Link 1, provided above. If you any further clarification/help, feel free to post it under comments.

In the next post, I'll explain how to "track" you phone on the net, while its on the move. Eg- Showing off your friends your current location and the best part, your friends don't need to register anywhere.

Cya till then!!

Blast From The Past!!

There was a time when a dude wrote about his college life in plain simple text and it beame a bestseller. Well, inspired from the man, I started penning down my own journey thinking 20 years later, it would sure make a fun read.

Me and My Misadventures with Life

Dil Bole Hadippa? Rather mildly!!

Latest from Yash Raj, touted as Rani's comeback venture, is a family watch with liberal dose of cricket in the backdrop. And as is the thing with most of its movies, rural punjab is the setting.

Rani plays a small town girl who dreams to make it big in the world of cricket.

Shahid is a superstar already, playing county cricket in Uk while Papa Kher, plays friendship matches with a friend across the border. The whole india-pak friendship theme gets to you at times. Too much of a drama.

Too many loses sees papa calling his son to help. Son comes and starts building a team. Rani sneaks in as a male player. What follows is simply put, fun. Don't try to reason or find logic and you'll be fine.

Acting wise all are good. Rani has overacted at places but all in all, a good show.
Special mention of the cricketing scenes here, Rani has pulled them off quite nicely. Doesn't look bad at all.

Worth 2.5/5
